Privacy policy

Draft for legal review

This draft is not a final legal policy. The operator, contact details, practices and terms must be confirmed and reviewed by a qualified legal professional before launch.

This draft describes the intended privacy approach for the Goodtakeswebsite and Mac app. It must be checked against the production services before publication. Effective date, legal operator, postal address and privacy contact: to be confirmed before launch.

Your footage and projects

Goodtakes works with footage from files, folders and Apple Photos on your Mac. The licensing service does not need your footage to activate or refresh a licence. Photos access is controlled through macOS permissions.

If you connect an agent through MCP, that agent can access project information, clip measurements and contact sheets through the tools you allow. Your agent provider may process that information under its own terms and privacy policy. Review its permissions before connecting.

Purchases and accounts

The website processes the information needed to complete a purchase, provide account access and manage your licence. This may include your email address, licence and activation records, plan, payment status and payment-provider identifiers.

Payments are handled by Stripe. Card details are entered into Stripe’s checkout, rather than the Goodtakes licence database. Stripe’s processing is governed by its own privacy policy.

Licence activation

Activation sends your licence key, app version, machine name and a machine identifier to the licensing service. The machine identifier is derived from your Mac’s hardware UUID using a one-way hash with aGoodtakes-specific prefix. It is used to recognise a Mac and enforce the activation limit; the raw hardware UUID is not sent.

The app stores a signed licence token locally and periodically asks the service to refresh it when online. Deactivating a Mac removes that activation from your licence.

Website operation and service providers

The hosting, account, email and payment services used by the website may process technical information needed to operate, secure and deliver their services. The final policy must identify the actual providers, data categories, cookies or similar storage, purposes and lawful bases where required.

Analytics, advertising, optional cookies and cross-border transfer arrangements have not been confirmed in this draft. No claim about their presence or absence should be inferred from it.

Retention and your choices

Licence, purchase and activation data may need to be retained to deliver the product, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. Specific retention periods, account deletion procedures and any statutory exceptions must be confirmed before launch.

You can manage Photos access in macOS settings, disconnect an MCP agent, and deactivate your Mac in Goodtakes. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or receive a copy of personal information, or to complain to a supervisory authority. The final policy must explain how to make those requests.

Before this policy is final

Legal review must confirm the operator and contact details, regional rights, children’s privacy requirements, security statements, international transfers, retention periods and how changes to this policy will be communicated.
